The future of health care 2
The future of health care, this is a big topic and I am going to go at it one piece at a time.
The wellness revolution is based on the basic understanding of what health is, and what it takes to be healthy. When we are healthy our bodies resist disease. Disease is a state of imbalance in our bodies, the body is in a state of dis-ease, it’s all about balance, not enough water you get dehydrated and that can make you sick, not enough salt and you can get sick, too much salt and you can get sick, not enough fat and you can get sick, to much carbohydrates and you can get sick, not enough zinc and you can get sick, too much zinc and you can get sick. I could go on and on and on, but you get the point.
our current system complicates disease by stating that the etiology is unknown. if you read the Merck Manuel you will see that statement over and over again, it means the cause is unknown. This is very frustrating because our current system values treatment over cause, in other words let’s spend millions of dollars on creating a drug to treat the symptoms instead of finding the imbalance that caused it.
The future of health care lies in keeping people healthy so we have less disease. It reminds me of a cartoon I once saw; it showed a cliff with a hospital at the bottom to take care of the people who fell off the cliff and at the top of the cliff was a person trying to put a fence up so people would not fall off and the in caption read “what are crazy, are trying cause us to lose our job?”
